All members of the MHA Auchlochan Board are volunteers. They bring with them the expertise of their day-to-day profession or background. Together they determine MHA Auchlochan’s strategy and vision for meeting the needs of older people, and ensure that the management team and staff deliver the service.
Brian Coldwell - (Chair)
Brian received the award OBE in 1990 for 'Services to the Teesside Community'. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Governors of the 'Cleveland College of Art and Design'. Prior to this he served as chairman of several charities in the Teesside area as well as being a past President of the Teesside Chamber of Commerce. From 1993 he served for 7 years as Chairman of the Executive of the Methodist Council followed by Chairman of the Group Board of MHA for a period of 9 years.
Before his retirement from full time employment his career included Personnel and Services Manager with ICI plc. - and Chief Executive of a business leadership team called 'Teeside Tomorrow.'
Peter Boggis
Peter’s principal experience is as a strategy consultant, helping companies and other organisations develop a vision and a plan for getting there. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, he spent some 10 years in Africa in Management Consulting before returning to Europe in 1989. Since then he has operated at a senior level with two international strategy consultancies and now operates as an independent consultant, business advisor and strategist. He and his wife, Margaret, are active members of Kirkby Lonsdale Methodist Church in Cumbria.
Professor Moira Brown
During her career as a virologist, Moira was employed by the Medical Research Council and the University of Glasgow as Professor in Clinical Neurosciences. She is currently a Director of Crusade Laboratories Limited, the company she founded to develop new treatments for cancer. She is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Edinburgh, a Fellow of The Royal College of Pathologists and Professor Emeritus at the University of Glasgow. In addition, she is Chairman of Medical Research Scotland, Scotland’s largest healthcare charity. In 2007, Moira was awarded an OBE for services to healthcare.
Suzanne Flynn
Suzanne has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College, London, and she undertook a postgraduate course in Computing Science. She is a Chartered Electrical Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce, a Member of the Chartered Quality Institute and a Member of the Women’s Engineering Society. She was a founding Director of Cygnet Solutions Limited for which she is currently the Technical Director, Principal Consultant and Quality Manager. Suzanne has been invited to speak at various conferences and lectures.
Lawrence Park
Lawrence lives at Auchlochan. He studied Medical Sciences. Following employment within the National Health Service, Lawrence moved into sales and marketing with a number of blue chip organisations, including Glaxo Group and Johnson & Johnson (as International Business Director). Further appointments followed at Ansell Medical, Stille Werner, and Aladan Corporation as International Sales and Marketing Director. Lawrence has been a Church Elder and lay preacher for over 40 years, and is currently secretary to an evangelical outreach group.
Dennis Steele
Dennis is a former Chairman of the Auchlochan Trust and is a resident on the Auchlochan estate. He was a senior executive with City of London Companies, active in International Trading and Commodities. He is a former Marketing Executive of the Tesco Group. Before retirement, Dennis spent time in Kenya as Regional General Manager for the whole of East Africa, working for a major European Company involved in commodity trading, industrial planning development, investment and the training of local people for management. After retirement to Essex, he became Company Secretary and Director of a private Nursing Home, and Chairman of a local Housing Association. A committed Christian, he served as a church elder and secretary for many years. While in Nairobi, he was Vice Chairman of the Emmaus Bible School.
Management
The management team of MHA Auchlochan is led by:
Roger Davies has been Chief Executive of MHA since 2001.
He began his career in the hospitality sector, firstly in general management and later qualifying and working as an accountant. Before joining MHA, Roger worked in the not-for-profit sector for two top 100 charities, both of which serve people in need, and an NHS Trust.
Roger is a non-executive Board Member of English Community Care Association and a member of Ashbourne Methodist Church.
Bob Maclean is the Managing Director of Auchlochan Garden Village.
Following a full career in the Royal Air Force, he joined the healthcare sector in 1992 working for the largest provider of elderly care in the UK. In 1994 he was Operations Director when the company won the UK Business of the Year award.
In 1996 BUPA bought that business and he became a director of BUPA’s care home business, then the biggest in the UK. He remained there until 2006 when he left to become Chief Executive of a business specialising in the care and support of people with Learning Disability, Following this, he set up his own consultancy business and worked as an advisor to banks and private equity houses until his appointment at Auchlochan in July 2011.
